Join us for a presentation about Navy pilots Jesse Brown and Tom Hudner by Eric Guttag.
Jesse Brown was part of an extremely poor sharecropper family in segregated Mississippi who would become one of the first black U.S. Navy aviators. By contrast, Tom Hudner grew up in white privilege in Massachusetts before graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy. These two individuals from very different backgrounds would become devoted “brothers in arms” as fellow navy pilots just before and during the Korean War. So let’s explore further into this incredible story of friendship and comradeship formed across the boundary of race.
